Aglaonema are part of the Araceae family and they are a perfect plant for beginners. They're sometimes called 'Chinese Evergreen' and are considered a highly decorative plant with several interesting varieties. Overall they are able to thrive in poorly-lit conditions, but this is only true of the all-green varieties. It is regarded as one of the most tolerant and reliable houseplants.

Secrets to success
Temperature: Preferred temperature of 15°C and above - keep out of draughts.
Light: Bright indirect light is best. Direct sun would scorch the leaves.
Watering: During active growth water enough to make the potting mix moist. Allow them to dry out a little in winter.
Air humidity: To increase humidity mist your plant, group it together with other plants, use a humidifier or add clean pebbles to a shallow water-filled tray and place the plant on top, as the water evaporates it will boost the humidity around the plant.
Fertilising: Feed monthly during the growing season - use half the recommended dosage of fertiliser.
