Ctenanthe are native to tropical Brazil and are part of the Marantaceae family. The leaves are oblong in shape, pale grey-green in colour with dark green lines and purple undersides. These plants are often called 'Prayer Plants' meaning their leaves are erect at night and flat in the day.

Secrets to success
Temperature: Ideally 16-24°C, keep out of draughts.
Light: Ctenanthe prefer lower to medium light, with some shade.
Watering: These plants like to be moist, reduce watering in winter.
Air Humidity: They prefer moderate to high humidity, this can be achieved by grouping plants together, misting, using a humidifier and placing your plant on a tray of watered pebbles.
Fertilising: Feed every few waterings during growing season, dilute fertiliser to half the recommended dosage.
