Transformed Café Barbette in Chester with custom botanical styling, using climate-hardy exterior greenery and rich indoor foliage to complement the venue's modern aesthetic
Root Houseplants partnered with Barbette, a chic, French-inspired café and wine bar situated in the heart of historic Chester. The brief required a seamless blend of biophilic design across both indoor and outdoor dining spaces, creating a sophisticated Parisian aesthetic that elevates the venue’s street presence and interior atmosphere.
Our approach focused on combining resilient, climate-hardy outdoor florals with lush, tactile interior foliage that complements Barbette's refined decor.
To achieve an authentic French bistro charm while ensuring durability across all seasons, we curated a dual indoor-outdoor botanical scheme:
Parisian Exterior Palette: For the outdoor seating area, we selected a mix of hardy perennials engineered to withstand British weather while delivering timeless, romantic street appeal.
Architectural Palms & Ficus elastica: Inside the venue, bold Rubber Trees (Ficus elastica) and sweeping palms were installed to echo the venue's elegant interior architecture and frame dining zones.
Tactile Philodendron micans: We brought an added layer of luxury with the velvety, deep-bronze foliage of Philodendron micans, cascading along shelving to create texture and depth.
