Anthurium 'Dorayaki' is a captivating hybrid aroid, prized for its distinctively rounded, velvety leaves with prominent, often silvery veins. This Anthurium cultivar features thick, almost pancake-shaped foliage with an appealing texture and striking contrast between the dark green leaf blade and its lighter veins. Its unique appearance makes it a highly sought-after plant for collectors. It is a member of the Araceae family.
The genus name Anthurium comes from Greek words, indicating a distinction from the flower's tail-like part and the modified leaf surrounding it. 'Dorayaki' is a cultivar name, said to refer to the plant's leaf shape, reminiscent of a Japanese filled pancake.
Light: Anthurium 'Dorayaki' thrives in bright, indirect light. Strong, direct sunlight can damage the leaves, while insufficient light can lead to less vibrant coloration and slower growth. A spot near a window with filtered light in a typical UK home would be suitable.
Water: The potting mix should be kept consistently moist but not saturated. Allow the upper inch or two of the potting mix to dry slightly between waterings. Ensure good drainage to prevent root issues, which can be a concern in the UK's climate.
Soil: A potting mix that drains well and is airy is essential. A mix specifically designed for aroids, incorporating materials such as perlite, orchid bark, and coco coir, is often recommended to provide the necessary drainage and aeration.
Fertilising: Use a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser to feed the plant every two to three weeks during its active growing period in spring and summer. Reduce or stop fertilizing during the autumn and winter months when the plant's growth naturally slows.
Temperature: This plant prefers warm temperatures, ideally between 18°C and 27°C (65°F and 80°F). It should be protected from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes, which can occur in UK homes, especially during colder months.
Humidity: Higher humidity levels are highly beneficial for Anthurium 'Dorayaki'. Consider using a humidifier, pebble tray, or placing it in a naturally humid room to maintain optimal conditions, particularly during drier indoor periods in the UK.
Growth Habit: This Anthurium has a compact growth habit. Its leaves tend to grow more laterally than continuously upwards, staying relatively close to the ground.
Toxicity: Like other Anthuriums, 'Dorayaki' is toxic if ingested. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children. Its sap can also be irritating to the skin.

We guarantee to send happy and healthy plants, however, it is your responsibility to care for them and we cannot be held responsible for neglect or mis care. Please send us a picture within 24 hours of receiving your plant and we'll help you out with your issue.
If returning your order, please keep all original packaging and use this to send the plant back to us. This will ensure the plant is kept as safe as possible on its return.
To allow the plant to acclimatise in its new home, there should be no repotting of the plant for a minimum of 14 days after receipt. If any plant has been repotted or a cutting has been taken then we are not able to accept returns.
We are happy to replace your plant if it is very badly damaged in transport. The loss of a leaf in transport on a healthy plant should not generally be cause for any concern. We cannot give a refund for snapped leaves.
