Peperomia caperata "Schumi red” is one of over 1000 varieties of Peperomia, most of which are native to Central and South America. This variety is unique for its deep red colour, which is accentuated by the deep spines on its leaves. All Peperomia plants, which belong to the Piperaceae family are semi-succulents with similar care requirements. The most common are Peperomia caperata, obtusifolia and rotundifolia.

How do you care for Peperomia caperata?
Care for Peperomia caperata by keeping in warm conditions, above 16°C all year. Anything lower and damage to leaves will occur. Keep the plant in bright, in-direct light. A west or east facing window is ideal but be aware that direct sunlight will burn leaves.
How often should you water Peperomia?
When watering Peperomia caperata, allow the top half of the soil to dry out before watering further. Overwatering will cause damage to the plant. A good technique is to water from the bottom rather than directly onto the plant. Water less in winter.

Peperomia caperata is easily propagated from leaf cuttings, stem tip cuttings and plant division. Be sure to allow the cut ends of the Peperomia leaves or stems being used for propagation to dry out for several hours or overnight before planting them.
How do you revive a dying Peperomia caperata?
In order to revive a dying Peperomia caperata you must ascertain what is causing the plant to suffer. You may be able to revive the plant by adjusting its living conditions, such as increasing or decreasing watering or adjusting the amount of light it receives. If the plant is suffering from root rot, then you may need to repot to revive it.
Re-pot Peperomia caperata to the next size container when the roots of the plant have filled the existing pot. Planting Peperomia in a pot that is too large prevents the soil from drying out quickly and causes root rot.

We pack and ship all orders on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays to prevent plants waiting in transit over the weekend.
We do send all our plants via next day delivery, however couriers can sometimes take longer.

We guarantee to send happy and healthy plants, however, it is your responsibility to care for them and we cannot be held responsible for neglect or mis care. Please send us a picture within 24 hours of receiving your plant and we'll help you out with your issue.
If returning your order, please keep all original packaging and use this to send the plant back to us. This will ensure the plant is kept as safe as possible on its return.
To allow the plant to acclimatise in its new home, there should be no repotting of the plant for a minimum of 14 days after receipt. If any plant has been repotted or a cutting has been taken then we are not able to accept returns.
We are happy to replace your plant if it is very badly damaged in transport. The loss of a leaf in transport on a healthy plant should not generally be cause for any concern. We cannot give a refund for snapped leaves.
